Forecast First Alert: Poor air quality & severe storms for some this afternoon

The risk for severe weather is mainly across east Twin Cities metro and southeastern Minnesota into western Wisconsin from about 3PM-10PM. Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats, a few tornadoes are also possible.

Minnesota’s Weather Authority has issued a Forecast First Alert for Wednesday, June 28, 2023. Severe storms are possible in the afternoon, and poor air quality is likely for a portion of the day.

An Air Quality Alert remains in place for southern and eastern Minnesota into western Wisconsin through midnight. You’ll again notice smoke and haze on the increase, especially later on this morning through early evening.

There will be two rounds of rain moving across Minnesota and Wisconsin today. The first is already moving through, or has moved through with just rain with a few embedded thunderstorms
