1 hospitalized after home explosion in Coon Rapids
One person is hospitalized after a home explosion Wednesday afternoon in Coon Rapids.
Coon Rapids Fire Chief John Piper said crews were called to the area of Palm Street Northwest and 104th Lane just before 3 p.m. after getting calls about an explosion.
First responders to the scene found the home “completely flattened” and a man outside, Piper said. That man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
The fire chief said flames extended to nearby homes and caused some damage — significant damage to one of the homes.
Several other departments were called in to help battle the flames, which were mostly extinguished by 5 p.m., according to Piper.

It’s not immediately clear what caused the explosion and Piper said he expects that is “going to take quite some time” to determine. No other injuries were reported.
A viewer sent pictures to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS showing firefighters battling flames and said a loud “boom” shook the area as far as at least two blocks away.
