The St. Paul Fire Department believes the origin of a fire at Catholic Charities Wednesday morning involved the “lithium battery components of an electric scooter” according to a statement from the department.

Firefighters said they were called to Catholic Charities just before 5 a.m. Wednesday for a fire alarm and sprinkler head activation.

The fire was extinguished, and no injuries were reported.

Fire crews say they classified the fire as accidental.

Catholic Charities said the room where the fire started and the room next door sustained water damage, but damage was minimal beyond that.

A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS photographer was at the scene of the fire on Hersey Street, about four blocks north of University Avenue, in the St. Anthony Park neighborhood.
