Investigation underway after man found at overnight Minneapolis crash site dies

UPDATE 7:35 a.m.: Minneapolis police say a man found at the scene of an overnight crash in Minneapolis has died.

According to police, officers were called to the intersection of Nicollet Avenue and East 19th Street at 11 p.m. Monday for reports of a property damage crash.

When officers arrived, they found a man with life-threatening injuries. Despite providing aid, the man died on the way to the hospital. His name and cause of death are expected to be released at a later time.

Police say the man had been traveling southbound on Nicollet when his vehicle crashed into another vehicle that had been parked on the street.

In addition, homicide investigators are looking into what happened.

Police say there is an active death investigation underway but didn’t specify if the man’s death is being considered a homicide.

No other details were immediately provided.

INITIAL REPORT 6:30 a.m.: Crime scene tape could be found in Minneapolis late Monday night after a crash.

A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS photographer was at the scene, located near 19th Street and Nicollet Avenue, around 11 p.m.

A white SUV was on its roof, and there was a silver car with lots of damage to the front end of it.

Officers set up crime scene tape and blocked off the area for several hours.
