Hennepin County Attorney: Airport employee charged in connection to copper wire theft
Authorities say an electrician employed by the Metropolitan Airports Commission has been charged in connection to the theft of copper wire that has been occurring for a number of years.
A news release from the Hennepin County Attorney's Office states Kipp Baldwin has been charged with one count of theft by swindle.
According to the release, someone informed the Airport Police Department in October that they believed Baldwin was stealing wire.
The county attorney's office says it was learned that Baldwin was taking wire from projects around the airport and selling it to scrap metal facilities.
Records from the scrap metal facilities show that between March 2015 and November 2019, Baldwin delivered metal to the facility 70 times and was paid $145,722.
