Minneapolis urges pet adoptions as shelter reaches capacity

If you’re looking for a new pet, Minneapolis Animal Care and Control may be a good place to start.

Wednesday, the city said it needs help finding homes for animals in its shelter, which has now reached capacity, with 98 animals being housed. Officials say that’s a 47% increase from this time last year, which turned out to be a record year for the department.

In just the past 11 days, city officials say 139 animals were brought to Animal Care and Control.

The department is now looking for anyone willing to adopt or foster any dogs or cats, especially experienced dog handlers.

The city says all adoption fees are still waived, and the animals are already completely vaccinated, sterilized, microchipped and ready to be adopted.
