DPS: Over 1,400 arrests in less than 3 weeks of impaired driving enforcement
Law enforcement officials across Minnesota say they’ve arrested more than 1,400 impaired drivers less than three weeks into their holiday extra-enforcement campaign.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) says the extra impaired driving enforcement will continue through the end of the calendar year.
However, just over halfway through the campaign — from Nov. 23 through Dec. 12 — a total of 1,427 impaired drivers were arrested on Minnesota roads, DPS officials say.
Since the start of the year, 24,725 impaired driving arrests have been made across the state, which is up from 23,301 during the same time period last year.
The extra enforcement campaign is a partnership between DPS and local agencies across the state.
Authorities remind Minnesotans to plan a safe ride — whether that’s designating a sober driver, staying at the celebration location or using an alternative option — rather than driving impaired, which can be caused by alcohol or any other substances.
