Pedestrian hit, killed while walking on highway in Otter Tail County

A pedestrian is dead after he was hit by a vehicle while walking on a highway around 6:30 p.m. Monday in Otter Tail County, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report.

Early information suggests the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee was headed north on Highway 78/108 in Rush Lake Township when the pedestrian was hit near Round Lake Loop. The report states the man was “walking in the lane.”

The driver wasn’t hurt, but the pedestrian has died.

The pedestrian is expected to be identified Tuesday night. At this time, the State Patrol has described him as a 74-year-old man from Palisade, Minn.

The State Patrol didn’t say who investigators believe is responsible for the crash or provide more details about the moments leading up to the crash.

The Jeep’s driver, a 32-year-old man from Ottertail, was sober and driving at a time when roads were dry, according to the report. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Aside from the man’s identity, the State Patrol is not expected to publicly release more information.
