1 in jail for possible DUI, fleeing police and 5th-degree drug possession after overnight car chase
One person is in Ramsey County Jail on suspicion of driving while impaired, fleeing police and fifth-degree drug possession after a car and foot chase overnight Monday into Tuesday in St. Paul, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The chase began when a driver did not comply with a State Patrol traffic stop near Interstate 94 and Kellogg Boulevard, the agency says.
Troopers then tried other ways of stopping the suspect car, including boxing the car in – during which the suspect “made contact with a State Patrol squad in an attempt to flee” – and using a pursuit intervention technique. Neither method was successful, so the State Patrol began following the car from the air.
The driver eventually stopped the car on Gorman Avenue and ran in the area of Robert Street on St. Paul’s West Side. The State Patrol says troopers caught the driver on King Street and took him to jail.
A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS photographer witnessed State Patrol personnel searching the trunk and back seat area of a silver car with damage to its back end.
Authorities have not provided any information on the driver, and as of 8 a.m. Tuesday, the Ramsey County Jail has not updated its inmate roster through the timeframe of the chase.
