2 St. Paul prep football teams to miss playoffs due to suspensions from altercation
Two St. Paul high school football teams won’t be able to play in the playoffs due to the repercussions of an altercation in their final game of the regular season.
St. Paul Harding/Humboldt and St. Paul Johnson played each other on Wednesday. However, during the game, “a significant number” of players and coaches were ejected for their behavior.
“In coordination with the Minnesota State High School League, we determined multiple Code of Conduct violations occurred, resulting in suspensions that will prevent both teams from participating in post-season section play,” St. Paul Public Schools said Friday.
Those suspensions leave each team too shorthanded to compete in the playoffs, therefore ending their seasons.
The district noted that the suspensions won’t affect any student-athletes’ participation in winter sports.
“Our school communities, including principals, athletic directors and coaches, are committed to coming together to make this a teaching moment for our student-athletes and to model good sportsmanship moving forward,” the district added.
