St. Paul man gets 14 years for kidnapping woman, driving across state lines
A St. Paul man was sentenced Wednesday in connection with a kidnapping that happened Feb. 10, 2022, according to a news release by United States Attorney Andrew Luger.
Derrick Johnathan Fasig, 28, will serve 14 years in prison followed by five years of supervised released. He pleaded guilty to one count of kidnapping on July 5, according to court documents.
As previously reported, the kidnapping victim was found safe.
According to court documents, Fasig kicked in a window at the residence where his victim lived. He kidnapped the woman at gunpoint, forced her into his vehicle and drove with her to Wisconsin, officials said.
Fasig repeatedly threatened the victim with a rifle and hammer that he kept in his lap while driving, and also forced her to throw her phone out the window, court documents said.
He drove the victim to his father’s house and barricaded her inside a bedroom, according to officials.
The next day, Fasig realized the house was being surveilled and left with the victim in his vehicle, court documents said.
Law enforcement was able to stop the vehicle after a high-speed pursuit, according to officials. Fasig tried to flee on foot, but was caught and arrested, court documents said.
This case was investigated by by the FBI and Minneapolis Police Department, with assistance from the Burnsville Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol, according to court documents.
