Willmar man indicted for illegally having explosive devices, gun

A Willmar man has been federally charged with having explosive devices and a short-barreled shotgun.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 39-year-old Brian Keith Kohls illegally had two bombs and a short-barreled shotgun, which weren’t registered, on Nov. 20, 2021.

He was indicted on charges of possession of unregistered destructive devices, possession of an unregistered short-barreled shotgun and possession of a firearm by an unlawful user of controlled substances.

Kohls made his first court appearance Tuesday and remains in custody, pending a formal detention hearing.

If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in federal prison.
