A man is in custody after a stolen vehicle crashed into a building late Sunday night near Allianz Field in St. Paul.
The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy was on patrol near Larpenteur and Snelling avenues just after 11:30 p.m. when a Chevrolet Impala sped past the deputy.
The deputy pursued and tried to stop the Impala but it fled. Eventually, the deputy saw the vehicle had crashed into a building near Snelling and Shields avenues, causing it to roll and start on fire.
According to the sheriff’s office, the deputy grabbed a fire extinguisher, put out the fire and saw that nobody was in the Impala. The deputy and a K9 officer then searched for the driver and found him hiding in a dumpster in the 400 block of Snelling Avenue.
The 20-year-old man was taken to a hospital for evaluation and then arrested after it was determined that he wasn’t injured. Formal charges haven’t yet been filed.
