Target and Cub announces new store hours, dedicated vulnerable guest shopping time

Target has announced it will remain open but will adjust operating hours due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.

According to a release, Target stores will close at 9 p.m. local time daily to give their team additional time to clean and restock. That change will begin March 18.

"Families are counting on Target for critical supplies during this challenging time, and we’ll continue to do all that we can to keep our stores open. For weeks, we’ve been responding to the impact of the coronavirus by taking care of our team, rigorously cleaning our stores and helping our guests find the food, medicine and other essentials they need for themselves and their families," said Brian Cornell, Chairman and CEO of Target. "As our team continues to adapt to the country’s fast-changing needs, we’re announcing plans to reduce our store hours and offer dedicated shopping hours for vulnerable guests. We’ll also maintain limits on select products and would ask guests to purchase only what they need so there’s enough supply to accommodate this increased demand."

Target also announced that the first hour of shopping each Wednesday will be for vulnerable guests, including the elderly or those with underlying health conditions.

Cub announced Tuesday that thirteen stores in the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota would operate 24 hours-a-day. Those locations include:

• The Blaine North location at 12595 Central Ave. NE, Blaine
• The Chanhassen location at 7900 Market Boulevard, Chanhassen
• The Coon Rapids North location at 12900 Market Boulevard, Coon Rapids
• The Duluth location at 615 W Central Entrance, Duluth
• The Eagan West location at 1940 Cliff Lake Road, Eagan
• The Fridley location at 250 57th Ave. NE, Fridley
• The Lakeville South location at 20250 Heritage Drive, Lakeville
• The Mankato West location at 1200 S Riverfront Drive, Mankato
• The Maple Grove location at 8150 Wedgewood Lane N, Maple Grove
• The Midway location at 1440 University Ave. W, St. Paul
• The Rochester location at 1021 15th Ave. SE, Rochester
• The Stillwater location at 1801 Market Drive, Stillwater
• The Uptown location at 1104 Lagoon Avenue, Minneapolis

All other locations will reduce hours, operating from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Cub is also asking that 6 to 7 a.m. be reserved for vulnerable shoppers.

Monday, Lunds & Byerlys also announced their stores would be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and that the first hour of shopping would be reserved for vulnerable shoppers.

"In doing so, our intent is to provide an opportunity for those individuals to be the first to shop after our overnight cleaning and stocking so they have increased access to essential products," Lunds & Byerlys said in a statement.

Local Minnesota grocer Kowalski’s Market is another supermarket that has announced reserved time for vulnerable shoppers. Their time slot will be from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.
