Man killed in fiery crash on I-35 near Iowa border

UPDATE 9/16 – Authorities say an Iowa man is dead following a crash Thursday afternoon on I-35 near the Iowa border.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a Freightliner semi tractor trailer was headed north on the highway just before 3 p.m.

The incident report states the vehicle hit a guard rail about three miles away from the border, and then started on fire.

At 8 a.m. Friday, the State Patrol identified the man as 64-year-old Larry Dean Bamsey from Spirit Lake.

Road conditions were listed as being dry at the time of the crash.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to the incident report.

INITIAL REPORT 9/15 – A crash and semi fire closed a portion of Interstate 35 in far southern Minnesota Thursday afternoon.

It happened in the 3 o’clock in the northbound lanes of I-35 near 125th Street.

The lanes are expected to be closed for several hours, and traffic is being detoured off the interstate at Exit 2, south of Albert Lea.

It wasn’t immediately clear how many vehicles were involved or if there were any injuries.
