Fier’s touchdown was an immediate response after Shakopee had drawn within a failed extra point from tying the game. Jadon Hellerud’s touchdown with 6:10 to go had Shakopee within 17-16 of the Lakers, but the failed extra point allowed Prior Lake to keep the advantage.
Prior Lake broke a 10-10 halftime tie with Jasno Green’s one-yard touchdown halfway through the third quarter.
Shakopee’s Garrison Monroe scored the first points of the game with a 38-yard run early in the first quarter that had the Sabers up 7-0 early.
The teams swapped field goals and a Prior Lake touchdown by Grayson Spronk had it knotted at halftime.
The River South rivals have made recent State Tournaments, but neither has broken through to appear in a Prep Bowl. Both came into Friday night’s clash ranked in the top 10 of the state rankings, hopeful the campaign ahead might snap their respective Prep Bowl droughts.
Prior Lake (2-0) is at Edina next week while Shakopee (1-1) plays their home opener against Farmington.
