Twins make 2 September roster additions
September is hearing and MLB rosters are expanding.
Unlike past years that have allowed large roster expansion starting Sept. 1, this year, teams are able to carry up to 28 players in September — two more than during the majority of the regular season.
Thursday, the Twins selected their two roster additions, activating left-handed pitcher Austin Davis and selecting the contract of outfielder Billy Hamilton.
Davis, 29, was claimed off waivers from the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. This season, he’s pitched in 50 games, going 2-1 with a 5.47 ERA, 61 strikeouts, 29 walks, and a .260 batting average against across 54.1 innings.
Hamilton was signed to a minor league deal on Aug. 25 and recently played two games for the Triple-A St. Paul Saints. The 31-year-old played in 20 games for Miami earlier this season.
Both players are expected to be in uniform Friday night for Minnesota when the team opens a series against the White Sox.
To make room for Hamilton on the 40-man roster, the Twins also shifted outfielder Trevor Larnach to the 60-day injured list. Larnach has missed the past 58 Twins games after undergoing core muscle surgery in June.
