Vikings cut 3, put 2 others on IR

The Minnesota Vikings made a handful of roster moves on Monday as the team continues to trim down its roster.

By Tuesday afternoon, all teams can carry no more than 53 players on the roster.

The latest cuts in Minnesota were cornerback Tye Smith, offensive tackle Timon Parris and wide receiver Myron Mitchell.

Smith re-signed with the Vikings last week and then played 31 snaps in Saturday’s preseason finale at Denver. Parris played in all three preseason games, including 44 snaps at Denver. Mitchell had five catches for 55 yards this preseason, including three catches for 18 yards at Denver.

Additionally, Minnesota placed two players on injured reserve — wide receiver Bisi Johnson and preseason standout defensive lineman T.Y. McGill — meaning they’ll miss the entire season.

Johnson had worked his way back from ACL surgery last year and now will have to do it again. McGill finished the preseason second in the NFL in sacks with 3.5 despite suffering an ankle injury on his third snap against Denver.

Minnesota opens the regular season on Sept. 11 against Green Bay.
