Man receives prison sentence for Brooklyn Park gas station shooting
A man who was convicted of shooting another man in Brooklyn Park last November will spend multiple years in prison.
Monday, a judge sentenced 44-year-old Daryl Williams to 153 months (about 12 and 3/4 years) in prison for Attempted Intentional 2nd Degree Murder.
Williams will receive 266 days of credit for time already served.
As previously reported, police were called to the Speedway Gas Station on the 7500 block of Brooklyn Boulevard the night of Nov. 20, 2021. When they arrived, they found the victim in an SUV parked in front of the station. He’d been shot multiple times.
Before he was taken to the hospital, he told police that someone he knew only as “Joker” had been the one who shot him, according to a criminal complaint.
The victim was shot at least five times and suffered gunshot wounds to the chest, lower pelvic region, abdomen, left arm and back. Medical personnel also told officers he had a broken arm and needed bladder and bowel repairs, the complaint says.
On Nov. 23, the victim spoke with police in the hospital. He said that just before the shooting he saw Joker at his driver’s side door with a black compact pistol, the complaint states. He heard shots, opened his center console to grab a gun and fired at Joker twice but missed. The victim gave police a picture of Joker, which led officers to identify him as Williams.
On Dec. 2, a man told police that Joker had seen the victim at a bowling alley then followed him to the Speedway before pulling a gun, the complaint says. Surveillance video showed the shooting occur and police were able to identify Williams by comparing the video to surveillance footage from an apartment complex.
