8-year-old hit, killed while biking in Prior Lake; driver arrested

An 8-year-old girl died Monday night after she was struck by a truck while riding her bike in Prior Lake.

Prior Lake police say officers were called to the intersection of Dakota Trail and Orion Road on the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Reservation at around 7:50 p.m.

The child – who was bike riding with her mother – was taken to a hospital by ambulance but later died from her injuries, police say.

The 8-year-old child was identified by the Hennepin County medical examiner as Chyanne Rios.

The 47-year-old driver of the truck stayed at the scene and was arrested.

The crash remains under investigation.
