Council approves design plans for historic Section Foreman House

The Wayzata City Council has approved the design plans for the historic Section Foreman House.

Tuesday night, the council voted to advance the project to the next phase of drawing up construction documents. That is expected to take through October to complete and, if approved, bidding would then open in January with a goal of starting construction in the spring so it could wrap by the end of the year.

The house, which was built in 1902 for railroad foremen and their families, is located along Lake Minnetonka. Great Northern Railway sold the home in the 1960s with the city having owned it for the past three decades. Last year, the home was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The plan is to renovate the house and use it as an interactive learning center.

The design and construction are expected to cost around $1.27 million with the Wayzata Conservancy covering the next 10 years of operations and maintenance.

While maintaining as much historic character as possible, the project aims to make necessary fixes and updates so the site can be enjoyed by visitors for years to come.
