2 people remove manhole cover in St. Paul, 1 injured after falling in

UPDATE 12 p.m. 8/17/22: Two young adults removed a sidewalk manhole cover before one of them fell 25 or more feet into the sewer, the St. Paul Fire Department tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS.
The young woman who fell was taken to the hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.
St. Paul Fire also says the St. Paul Police Department responded to the scene.
INITIAL REPORT 6 a.m. 8/17/22: St. Paul firefighters rescued a woman overnight after she apparently fell into an open manhole on the sidewalk.
The rescue took about an hour, and began around 1 a.m. Wednesday at West Fifth Street and Washington Avenue, near Rice Park.
A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS photographer at the scene got video, embedded above, of firefighters working to pull the woman out.

KSTP is working to get more information from the St. Paul Fire Department about how the woman got into the hole and why it was open.
Paramedics took the woman to the hospital.
