Second Harvest Heartland packs emergency food boxes during COVID-19 outbreak

Second Harvest Heartland employees are packing up emergency food boxes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The goal is to make sure no one goes hungry as the outbreak expands.

Employees are doubling down, so Minnesota families will have food on their tables. It’s a different operation at Second Harvest Heartland in Brooklyn Park Thursday.

The facility would typically be filled with volunteers, but because of the virus, the food bank is changing things up and having only their employees pack emergency food boxes.

Second Harvest Heartland CEO Allison O’Toole said the need in the community is off the charts and there’s no time to waste with a lot of Minnesotans out of work.

“This is a critical need for Minnesota families, and we are trying to sure up the cabinets of everyone in our community,” O’Toole said.

Second Harvest Heartland teams up with agencies across the state that will distribute the emergency food boxes to families in need.
