St. Paul police arrest 15-year-old suspect in multiple carjackings, robberies
Authorities have arrested a 15-year-old boy who is a suspect in multiple carjackings and robberies around the Twin Cities metro.
St. Paul Police said a 21-year-old woman had a gun pointed at her at 9:39 p.m. Thursday as she got out of her car in the 800 block of St. Paul Avenue. The suspect demanded her purse but she didn’t have any money so the suspect got into a nearby black sedan and drove away.
The victim wasn’t injured but quickly reported the incident to police, who reviewed surveillance video and found the suspect vehicle had followed a white Audi Q5 across the Ford Parkway Bridge into Minneapolis.
Police said the suspect vehicle then rear-ended the Audi, assaulted the driver and stole the vehicle.
Friday, authorities found the stolen Audi but it fled when law enforcement tried to pull it over.
Police said the Minnesota State Patrol provided support with a helicopter and investigators were able to track the suspect to the east side of St. Paul, where the car was dumped in the 100 block of Bates Avenue. A K9 unit was deployed and officers were able to find and arrest the 15-year-old.
The department said the teen has been arrested more than 20 times. As of Friday night, he was in jail.
