Twins sign pitcher Brad Peacock, assign him to Triple-A

The Minnesota Twins have signed a veteran pitcher, although most fans surely hope more help will soon be on the way.

Friday, the organization announced the signing of right-handed relief pitcher Brad Peacock.

Peacock, 34, had been pitching for the Kansas City Royals’ Triple-A affiliate this season before being released on July 17. In 35 appearances for the Omaha Storm Chasers this year, he went 2-1 with a 1.64 ERA, 45 strikeouts, 16 walks, seven saves and a .229 opponent batting average across 38.1 innings.

The former 41st-round pick by the Washington Nationals has pitched in the majors across parts of 10 seasons, mostly with the Houston Astros. He most recently appeared in two games for the Boston Red Sox last season.

In his MLB career, Peacock has appeared in 183 games (84 starts) and is 34-31 with a 4.11 ERA with 590 strikeouts, 241 walks, three saves and a .232 opponent batting average across 560 innings.

In a corresponding move, the Twins also released minor-league right-handed pitchers Wladimir Pinto and Jake Petricka. Pinto was 3-4 with a 2.08 ERA in 25 games for the Saints while Petricka was 0-1 with a 4.18 ERA in 21 games.

The Twins and fans are hoping to add more pitching help ahead of Tuesday’s MLB trade deadline.
