Forest Lake native and Twins 24-year-old outfield prospect Matt Wallner will play at Dodger Stadium Saturday in the MLB Futures Game. The best prospects in the game were invited to play, part of All-Star week.
Wallner was drafted 39th overall by the Twins in 2019 after a great run at Southern Miss. He’s dominating with Double-A Wichita this year, with a call-up to Triple-A St. Paul seemingly coming. In 82 games, Wallner is hitting .292 with 21 home runs and 64 RBIs.

We caught up with Wallner, via Zoom, to hear about how excited he is to play in the Futures Game.

We also asked Wallner if he’s thought about the possibility of being traded. With the Aug. 2 deadline approaching and the Twins in need of pitching help, Wallner could hold appeal with potential trade partners.
