Vehicle permit waived Saturday for Minnesota State Parks

Outdoor enthusiasts will be able to enter all 75 of Minnesota’s state parks and recreations areas without needing to pay the vehicle admission fee this Saturday.

This Saturday’s Free Park Day also coincides with National Get Outdoors Day, which takes place on the second Saturday in June every year.

Free Park Day is an event held four times per year in Minnesota, where the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) waives the requirement for a vehicle permit. The next – and final – Free Park Day in 2022 is Friday, Nov. 25.

However, the waiver doesn’t cover activities such as camping, rentals or tours.

In addition to Free Park Day, dozens of special programs are being offered in the parks and recreation areas to celebrate National Get Outdoors Day.

Also happening this weekend is “Take a Kid Fishing Weekend,” which runs from Friday-Sunday.

Residents can fish without licenses if they take kids ages 15 and younger along. Kids in that age range aren’t required to have fishing licenses at any time of the year, but must follow all fishing seasons and other regulations.

The DNR adds Minnesota residents need a trout stamp to fish on bodies of water that requires it, regardless if you are fishing for trout or another species, however, residents can fish without a license in most state parks. CLICK HERE to read the full statute.
