Twins put Sonny Gray on IL
The Minnesota Twins have lost another starting pitcher to injury.
Sonny Gray was put on the 15-day injured list on Thursday, retroactive to Monday, due to a right pectoral strain.
Gray suffered the injury during Sunday’s game against Kansas City.
The 32-year-old is 3-1 this season with a 2.41 ERA over 33.2 innings, including 39 strikeouts, 10 walks and a .187 opponent batting average.
It’s his second trip to the injured list this season after missing 19 games from April 17 through May 7 due to a hamstring strain.
In his place, the Twins recalled pitcher Yennier Cano to the active roster.
Cano made his MLB debut on May 11 with the Twins and appeared in six total games from May 11 through May 28, giving up 11 runs in 7.1 innings.
