Twins gifting fans Buxton NFT at June 10 game
The Minnesota Twins are trying a first-of-its-kind gate giveaway for the team’s June 10 game.
All fans with a ticket for the game on the MLB Ballpark app will receive an exclusive Byron Buxton non-fungible token (NFT), the team announced Wednesday.
The digital collectible includes multiple images, Buxton’s e-signature and a customized notation of the game’s date, location, matchup and ticket holder’s seat location.
Fans who have a mobile ticket through the app will get a redemption email for the NFT two days after the game.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Candy Digital to provide Twins fans with this next-generation baseball collectible,” Chris Iles, the Twins’ senior director of brand experience and innovation, said in a statement. “This new category of fan giveaway not only provides a new spin on baseball cards and collective tickets, but these rare digital assets will help evolve the whole collector space. It’s exciting to dive into this emerging technology with Twins fans!”
The Twins also became the first MLB team to give a commemorative NFT away earlier this season when season ticket holders were given an NFT.
Candy Digital is MLB’s official NFT ecosystem and is working with select MLB clubs through this season to provide special collectibles.
