Gov. Walz to self-quarantine after member of security detail tests positive for COVID-19

Gov. Tim Walz said Monday that he will self-quarantine for 14 days after learning he came into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.

Walz said he’s been at home since he was informed of the contact early Monday morning. He has not shown any symptoms so far.

"The most important thing Minnesotans can do to stop the spread of COVID-19 is to stay home," said Walz. "I’m using this as an opportunity to lead by example. Though I’m feeling healthy and not showing any symptoms, I’m going to work from home and model the protocol we are asking all Minnesotans to follow."

According to the governor’s office, the individual is a member of his security detail.

Walz said he’ll continue to oversee the state’s response to the pandemic while working from home.
