Fire destroys home in Barnum Township

The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office has released preliminary information on a fire that caused the “total loss” of a home in Barnum Township Saturday night.

Deputies arrived at an address on Hilltop View Road at 8:38 p.m. for the report of a garage fire.

Authorities say that a vehicle in an attached garage of the home had started on fire, and the blaze spread through the residence.

Fire department personnel were eventually able to extinguish the fire, however, the home and attached garage are considered a total loss.

The cause of the fire is unknown but Carlton County says it is not believed to be suspicious.

The fire is being investigated by the Minnesota Fire Marshall’s Office and the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office.
