Ramsey man charged in connection to crash that killed teen riding bicycle

A man has been charged in connection to a crash that killed a teen who was riding his bicycle in Blaine Friday, according to court records. 

A criminal complaint states Daniel Aaron Rodman was charged with two counts of criminal vehicular homicide. 

The crash killed 16-year-old Anthony Janisch. 

According to the complaint, officers were called Friday evening on the report of a vehicle crash involving a bicycle.

When officers arrived, they located Janisch lying in the road with "extensive injuries." The complaint said Janisch was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Witnesses at the scene said Janisch and two friends were riding bikes and skateboards on 129th Avenue when a silver car struck Janisch. 

Officers located the driver of the car – later identified as Rodman – who said he had finished work and had a beer at a friend's home.  The complaint said he told police he was driving westbound on 129th Avenue when he struck Janisch. 

According to the complaint, three different officers who spoke with Rodman said they smelled marijuana on him. Rodman denied using marijuana. 

A drug recognition expert was then called in to examine Rodman. Following the examination, the expert concluded that Rodman was "unable to safely operate a motor vehicle due to being under the influence of marijuana and/or prescription drugs and alcohol."
