Black Sheep pizza closes St. Paul location

Black Sheep pizza has abruptly closed its downtown St. Paul location after 11 years in business. The coal-fired pizza place announced the closure on social media, alluding to the pandemic, shortages, and bike lanes being factors contributing to the reason for the closure.

The restaurant was located at 512 N. Robert St., near the corner of East 10th Street. The bike lanes mentioned in the post are likely in reference to bike lanes added along 10th Street which eliminated some parking along the street. The bike lanes are part of the longer-term Capital City Bikeway project, which aims to make downtown St. Paul more bicycle-friendly with more bike lanes and connections to other bike paths in the city.

As the pandemic has progressed and restaurants reopened their doors, many dining and small businesses have talked about dealing with staffing shortages and rising prices of goods.

Black Sheep still has two locations in Minneapolis in the North Loop and Eat Street neighborhoods. Their location at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is listed as temporarily closed on the airport’s website.
