'The Great American Takeout' encourages consumers to support restaurants
The restaurant industry is asking consumers to participate in 'The Great American Takeout' on Tuesday. The industry has recently taken a hit during the COVID-19 pandemic, with most restaurants closing down or taking in less business due to the virus.
Many states and cities across the nation have ordered all dine-in restaurant operations closed to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.
While many restaurants can still offer takeout service, delivery and pick-up, social distancing and lockdowns pose a large economic threat to the restaurant sector, which employs an estimated 15 million workers.
That's what led national and regional eateries to create #thegreatamericantakeout.
The Midtown Global Market said on Tuesday there will be multiple restaurants to order for delivery or pick-up. Those food establishments include:
- Manny's Tortas
- La Loma Tamales
- Jakeeno's Tattoria
- Produce Exchange
- Grass Roots Gourmet
- Eastlake Craft Brewery Delivery
Consumers are encouraged to order at least one delivery or pick-up meal on Tuesday to show support for the industry. Consumers are also being asked to post on social media using the hashtag #thegreatamericantakeout to further encourage participation.
Restaurants can join the event by adding their information to the list here and asking customers to share social media and email lists.
