PHOTOS: Art in Bloom begins at Minneapolis Institute of Art Thursday

While it hasn’t truly felt like spring outdoors this month, you can now get a taste of the season indoors starting Thursday.

Art in Bloom, the celebration of art and flowers at the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia), will be held Thursday, April 28 through Sunday, May 1.

This year’s event will also happen in conjunction with an exhibition that revisits artworks featured in previous Art in Bloom events called “Floral Affair: A Bouquet for the Friends,” according to the institute.

More than 140 floral interpretations of certain pieces of artwork will be on display in galleries alongside the artwork which inspired them.

The institute says free, guided tours of the displays can be done in person and virtually.

In addition, a talk by a former Mia curator will discuss artwork by Vincent van Gogh, Georgia O’Keefe, Claude Monet and others at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 28. Tickets for this event are $25.

On Saturday, a live floral demonstration by floral artists will be held at 1 p.m. Those tickets are also $25.

The Institute says proceeds from ticketed lectures and demonstrations will help pay for the costs of buses which take children to the museum for field trips.

Sunday, which is May Day, will be celebrated with a family event that includes singing, dancing and storytelling from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. That event is also free.
