Q&A: Stillwater’s Sara Scalia on leaving Gophers to play for Indiana

Leading scorer Sara Scalia (Stillwater HS) is departing the Gophers after three seasons. She entered the transfer portal in late March, and soon after, chose to continue her collegiate career at Indiana. So, she’s staying in the Big Ten, and the Gophers will now be a rival.

Our Darren ‘Doogie’ Wolfson recently caught up with Scalia to hear her thoughts on why she’s leaving the Gophers and how Indiana is an ideal fit.

Scalia averaged 17.0 points per game during the 2021-22 season and made 41% of her three-pointers. She averaged 14.5 points a game during her three seasons at Minnesota. She has two years of eligibility remaining.

Also in March, leading rebounder Kadi Sissoko announced she’s entering the transfer portal. It’s been an offseason of change for the Gophers.

The Gophers went 15-18 in 2021-22 under head coach Lindsay Whalen. Whalen carries a 60-57 in four seasons as their head coach and was recently given a contract extension through 2025.
