Whalen speaks on Hall of Fame induction

Five-time WNBA All-Star and two-time Olympic gold medalist Lindsay Whalen spoke Wednesday about being named to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Whalen, who is currently the head coach for the Gophers’ women’s basketball team, will be part of the 2022 class.

Last month, the Gophers announced they had extended Whalen’s contract into 2025. She has coached the Gophers since 2018 and has gone 59-55 with one trip to the WNIT.

Former University of Minnesota Golden Gophers great “Sweet Lou” Hudson is also being inducted.
The induction ceremony will be held this September in Springfield, Massachusetts.
As previously reported in February, Whalen was named a finalist for the Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility.
Whalen led the Gophers to a Final Four appearance as a player and won four WNBA championships with the Minnesota Lynx. She is the first Minnesota women’s basketball player to be named to the Hall of Fame.
