Gophers’ Gable Steveson named best collegiate wrestler
University of Minnesota star Gable Steveson has been named the best collegiate wrestler – again.
The senior heavyweight capped his college career with another national title earlier this month, and was announced Monday as the winner of the WIN Magazine/Culture House Dan Hodge Trophy. That award goes to the most dominant collegiate wrestler each year, an award Steveson shared with Iowa’s Spencer Lee last season.

Steveson is now the sixth person to win the Dan Hodge Trophy multiple times, joining Cael Sanderson, Ben Askren, David Taylor, Zain Retherford, and Spencer Lee. However, he’s the only heavyweight to win the award multiple times.
The Apple Valley native is undoubtedly one of the best Gophers wrestlers ever, finishing his Minnesota career with a record of 85-2, two NCAA championships, three Big Ten titles and two Dan Hodge trophies.
He’s said he’s interested in becoming a professional wrestler and will attend WrestleMania in April, although he hasn’t said if he’ll be involved in any way.
