VIDEO: Gov. Walz issues stay-home order for 2 weeks to curb spread of COVID-19

Wednesday, Gov. Tim Walz called on Minnesotans to remain at home for two weeks to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The two-week period will begin Friday night (March 27) at 11:59 p.m. through Friday, April 10.
During those two weeks, Minnesotans are able to leave their homes for health and safety activities, outdoor activities, gathering necessary supplies, essential travel, the care of others and relocation purposes.

Essential works are exempt from the stay at home order. Those jobs include:
- Healthcare and public health
- Law enforcement, public safety and first responders
- Emergency shelters, congregate living facilities, drop-in centers
- Child care
- Food and agriculture
- News media
- Energy
- Water and wastewater
- Critical manufacturing
The order is expected to slow the spread of COVID-19 and allow the state to continue to prepare for the pandemic.

Walz also said the closure of schools and the use of distance learning will be used through May 4.
Bars and restaurants are also expected to remain closed as they are through May 1.
