After making a big splash at the NHL trade deadline, Wild fans will have to wait a little longer to see newly acquired goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.
“We have two great goalies in Cam Talbot and Marc-Andre Fleury, we want to give Fleury an opportunity to get settled in, and then we’ll find a way to use him. We know how much success Fleury has had in this league, but since we have a good option in Talbot we don’t need to rush Fleury into the starting lineup,” said Wild head coach Dean Evason.
Fleury is a 3-time Stanley Cup champion, winning with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009, 2016 and 2017. On Wednesday, he went back to Chicago to pack some of his personal belongings before joining the Wild for Thursday’s home game against the Vancouver Canucks. Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon is very familiar with Fleury’s body of work in the NHL and is thrilled to have him as a teammate:
“I couldn’t be happier to have “Flower” as one of my teammates. He’s a proven winner and knows what it takes to make a deep run into the playoffs. He’s a great guy and will fit in with us right away. Just knowing we have him or Cam [Talbot] in net will give us a great opportunity to win,” says Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon.
Game time for the Canucks/Wild game at the Xcel Energy Center on Thursday night is set for 7:00 p.m.
