Hundreds gathered in solidarity at the Minnesota State Capitol on Sunday in support of the people of Ukraine.
Members of the Ukrainian American Community Center organized the rally filled with families and politicians making it clear they stand with Ukrainians.
Gov. Tim Walz proclaimed March 6, 2022 as Ukrainian Solidarity Day.
“Minnesota has a proud tradition of welcoming and providing sanctuary for those in need,” Walz said to the crowd at the rally. “We are here for any Ukrainians to find that peace and to find that sanctuary in Minnesota,” he added, the crowd then chanting “Minnesota” several times in support.
Many held signs, while others waved Ukrainian flags. To start the rally, prayers were read and both the U.S. and Ukraine national anthems were sang.
“I can’t describe the way I feel, it’s a pit in my soul and I just it’s hard to take,” Stefan Kramarczuk, who brought his family to the rally, said about how the last few weeks have been.
Kramarczuk said he’s donated funds to help the cause — you can learn how here.
The American Ukrainian Community Center has also set up a fund to make sure your donations make it where it’s needed.
