Minnesota reports 2nd COVID-19 death, total cases reach 346

Thursday, the Minnesota Department of Health reported 59 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 346.

The MDH Public Health Lab has processed 6,849 tests, and private labs have completed 6,101 tests — private lab test totals had not been reported prior to Wednesday.

Two Minnesotans have died from the disease. According to MDH, the second death involved a patient from Ramsey County who was in their 80s. 

"We share our condolences with the family and friends of the deceased person, and we will continue to work hard to prevent additional illnesses and deaths in Minnesota," MDH said in a statement.

At least one positive COVID-19 diagnosis has been reported in these Minnesota counties: Anoka, Benton, Big Stone, Blue Earth, Carver, Cass, Chisago, Clay, Dakota, Dodge, Fillmore, Goodhue, Hennepin, Jackson, Lac Qui Parle, Le Sueur, Martin, Mower, Nicollet, Olmsted, Ramsey, Renville, Rice, Scott, Sherburne, Sibley, St. Louis, Stearns, Steele, Wabasha, Waseca, Washington, Winona and Wright.

According to the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering, the virus has infected about 492,600 people worldwide and killed about 22,000.
