Gophers volleyball team adds 2 transfers
Two mid-year transfers have been added to the University of Minnesota Gophers volleyball team.
Friday, the university announced the additions of middle blocker Arica Davis and setter Elise McGhie.
Davis spent her first collegiate season at Ohio State after being named a 2019 PrepVolleyball.com All-America Honorable Mention. She helped lead the Buckeyes to a Sweet 16 appearance while leading the team in blocks per set (1.28) and averaging 1.53 kills per set.
"Arica is a talented middle blocker with a proven history of success," Gophers head coach Hugh McCutcheon said in a statement. "She will add some great depth and experience to our program."
McGhie comes to the Gophers after playing two years at Kansas where she averaged over 8 assists per set her freshman year and was second on the team by averaging 6 assists per set this past fall. In her two seasons in Kansas, she recorded 40+ assists five times, including 50 against Wake Forest on Sept. 3, 2019.
"Elise is a great setter who is strong in all phases of the game. She’s a wonderful addition to our program," McCutcheon said.
Both Davis and McGhie have three years of eligibility remaining.
The Gophers began practicing this week and return eight players who started matches in last season’s run to the NCAA Regional Final.
