Gophers down 4 players, 2 coaches due to COVID-19, injury

The University of Minnesota men’s basketball team will be shorthanded for Sunday’s game against Iowa.

The team said four players — Eric Curry, Sean Sutherlin, Danny Ogele and Joey Kern — and two assistant coaches will miss Sunday’s game due to COVID-19 protocols or injury. Curry suffered an ankle injury Wednesday against Michigan State.

While shorthanded, Minnesota still has enough available players and coaches to compete, per conference rules. League rules require at least seven available scholarship athletes and one coach; the Gophers will have eight players — seven on scholarship.

Minnesota and Iowa is set to tip off at 1 p.m.
