MDH: 48 newly reported COVID-19 deaths, 6,780 newly reported cases

Monday, the Minnesota Department of Health reported*:

  • 48 newly reported deaths from COVID-19
  • 6,780 newly reported positive COVID-19 tests

*Due to the holiday, data posted on Monday represents data as of 4 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30. Monday’s newly reported cases also include some cases that were delayed in getting reported due to a reporting error from an external lab, MDH said.

Additionally, MDH said:

  • 8.71 million COVID-19 vaccinations have been administered
  • 1.71 million third-dose and booster shots have been administered
  • 3.51 million people have completed the vaccine series
  • 72% of those 5 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine

As of Monday, MDH also reported:

  • 142,583 total breakthrough cases, accounting for 4.261% of fully vaccinated Minnesotans
  • 5,526 total breakthrough hospitalizations, accounting for 0.165% of fully vaccinated Minnesotans
  • 1,080 breakthrough deaths, accounting for 0.032% of fully vaccinated Minnesotans

Meanwhile, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported, as of Monday, 85 of the 87 counties in Minnesota remained at a high level of COVID-19 community transmission.

According to the CDC, counties in red have a high level of community transmission, in orange have a substantial level, in yellow have a moderate level and in blue have a low level.
