Gophers’ Whalen talks Hall of Fame nomination and looks ahead to Drake

Minnesota Gophers women’s basketball head coach Lindsay Whalen was nominated for the 2022 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame class. Whalen met with the media Tuesday afternoon following practice at University of Minnesota Athletes Village.

Whalen talked about the nomination, what the nomination means to her, facing Drake last year during COVID, Sara Scalia’s confidence, frontcourt contribution, and if she ever reflect on her personal impact on basketball in the state of Minnesota.

Whalen was nominated along with the likes of Chauncey Billups, Swin Cash, Tom Chambers, and Manu Ginobili. The Hall of Fame Class will be announced in April.

Whalen won four WNBA championships with the Minnesota Lynx, two Olympic gold medals, two world championships, and was named one of the WNBA’s 25 greatest players.
