Police are investigating after an Instagram account surfaced that appeared to be leveling threats against Maple Grove High School.
According to a letter from MGHS Principal Bart Becker, an Instagram account with "MGHS" and "shooter" in its name and threats toward the school in its bio was discovered Monday morning.
The threat comes after a string of threats at schools around the Twin Cities.
One student in Hudson, Wisconsin, was arrested last week after posting an image of a handgun with the caption "Wednesday" on Instagram. And a middle school student in Sauk Rapids was taken into custody after allegedly posting a threat to social media.
"I can understand why this account is causing concern with students and families," Becker wrote. "The recent violence at a Michigan high school has a lot of us tense and on edge. Schools throughout the Twin Cities metro have been sharing that they’ve also been impacted by threatening social media posts this morning.
"Please know that the safety and well-being of our students is our first priority. I want to encourage all students to continue to let us know of any safety concerns immediately in order for us to take appropriate action with our law enforcement partners. Working together, we can keep our school safe."
