Minnehaha boys basketball looks to life after Chet Holmgren

The Minnehaha Academy boys basketball comes into the season ranked No. 1 in Class 2A. Even after the departure of superstar Chet Holmgren, the team still has two stars in senior Prince Aligbe and sophomore Mercy Miller. KSTP Sports stopped by practice to catch up with the Redhawks.

The Redhawks won the Class 3A State Championship last year. This year they moved back to Class 2A, where they won 2016-17, 2017-18, and the 2018-19 State Championship. There was no State tournament in 2019-20 due to COVID-19.
But, those teams were led by superstars Jalen Suggs and Chet Holmgren. Now that both are gone, the team is still set to contend for yet another State Tournament run.
Head coach Lance Johnson talked about his excitement level heading into this season, life without Suggs and Holmgren, what he sees in his team, the leadership of Aligbe, and why the team moved back to Class 2A.

Aligbe discussed his commitment to play college basketball at Boston College University, mentoring the younger kids on the team, his status as a leader of the team, how excited he is for it to be "his team", the growth of Miller, and what he expects from the Redhawks this season.
