The ceremony will take place on Saturday, March 13 when the Wild host Nashville. Koivu is the first player in franchise history to have his jersey retired.
Koivu played 15 of his 16 seasons in the NHL with the Wild. Koivu was appointed a permanent captain by the team in 2009. Koivu has recorded 711 points, including 206 goals in his playing career. He ranks second all-time in goals with the Wild with 205.
"No one worked harder than Mikko during his time with the Minnesota Wild," said Wild general manager Bill Guerin. "He was a fiery competitor and a fantastic captain both on and off the ice. Mikko is the franchise leader in so many categories, but the impact he made in our community and the connections he made with Wild fans, will live on forever. We look forward to sharing this special honor with Mikko and all of our great fans on March 13th."
