1 airlifted after standoff, officer-involved shooting in Forest Lake

A man was airlifted to the hospital after a standoff in Forest Lake, police said.

On Sunday at about 1:33 p.m., the Forest Lake Police Department received a 911 call reporting a violation of an order for protection. The caller said that the 47-year-old white man had come to their home, was armed with a gun and said he would threaten any police who came, according to Captain Greg Weiss of the Forest Lake Police Department.

Officers located the suspect and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect fled in his vehicle and police began a pursuit due to the order for protection violation and the suspect being armed. Law enforcement performed a Pursuit Intervention Tactic (PIT) maneuver near the 7000 block of North Shore Trail.

The suspect posed a threat to officers and "shots were fired," Weiss said. He would not clarify by whom shots were fired.

Police rendered medical aid to the man until paramedics arrived. He was subsequently airlifted to the hospital. His current condition is unknown.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the officer-involved shooting with the cooperation of Forest Lake police.
